Conf. Univ. Dr. Cătălina Giurgi-Oncu

Cătălina Giurgi-Oncu, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara, and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the “Eduard Pamfil” Psychiatric Clinic, Timiș County Emergency Clinical Hospital.

She brings over 15 years of clinical experience in General Adult Psychiatry across inpatient and outpatient settings in Romania and the United Kingdom, with GMC registration and NHS experience in Scotland and England. She holds Specialist Associate membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK).

Her research interests encompass affective disorders, liaison psychiatry, and global mental health. She was formerly an affiliate visiting lecturer on the Global Mental Health MSc programme at the University of Glasgow’s Institute of Health and Wellbeing (2016–2018) and holds a Level II EMDR psychotherapy.

Dr. Giurgi-Oncu has been actively involved in professional organisations within Romanian psychiatry, serving in leadership roles within the Romanian Association of Psychiatry Trainees (2012–2015), the Romanian Association of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy — as Chair of the Early Career Psychiatrists Committee (2017–2022) and Secretary General (2023–2025) — and as a Board Member of the Timișoara Association of Psychiatrists.
