Conf. Univ. Dr. Cătălina Giurgi-Oncu

Cătălina Giurgi-Oncu, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor in Psychiatry in the Department of Neuroscience at the “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timisoara (employed since 2013). Her current clinical role is of Consultant Psychiatrist at the Timis County Emergency Clinical Hospital, “Eduard Pamfil” Psychiatric Clinic (2019- ongoing). Dr. Giurgi-Oncu has over 15 years of experience as a trainee, a specialist, and, subsequently, as a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, in Romania and the United Kingdom (fully registered with the General Medical Council, 2016-2018, employed by NHS trusts in Scotland and England). She holds a Specialist (International) Associate registration with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK (2017-ongoing).

Dr. Giurgi-Oncu’s academic past and current interests revolve around affective disorders, liaison psychiatry and global mental health, as she was formerly affiliated with the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow, for the Global Mental Health MSc programme, where she temporarily acted as a visiting lecturer (2016-2018). She holds a Level II EMDR psychotherapy certification.

In the area of professional organization activities, Dr. Giurgi-Oncu was the former Chair (2012-2013), and, subsequently, Executive Chair (2014-2015) of the Romanian Association of Psychiatry Trainees (AMRPR). More recently, she was the former chair of the Committee for Early Career Psychiatrists within the Romanian Association of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (ARPP) (2017-2022). She is the current Secretary General of the Romanian Association of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and a Board member of the Timisoara Association of Psychiatrists.
