Prof. Dr. Norbert Nedopil

Norbert Nedopil

After studying medicine and psychology, he received his training  as a psychiatrist at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Munich from 1977 to 1984, specializing in psychopharmacology, schizophrenia research and sleep research.

Starting in 1982, he specialized in forensic psychiatry, and from 1989 to 1992, he headed the newly founded Department of Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Würzburg as a professor.

From 1992 to 2016, he was head of the Department of Forensic Psychiatry at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Munich. Since leaving his post, he has continued to work as a consultant, supervisor and expert for courts and authorities.

His scientific focus has been on quality assurance and quality improvement of psychiatric assessments, the differentiation and psychopathology of human aggression, risk assessment, risk communication and risk management in mentally ill offenders as well as ethical and legal issues in psychiatry.

He is the author or co-author of 16 specialist books and over 300  articles in scientific journals and books and a non-fiction book for interested laypersons. He is a member of various professional associations and on the editorial board of several specialist journals.
