“Helping people change: an introduction to Motivational Interviewing” Course
Our patients are sensitive to the way we talk to them. Yet interventions are most often based on what to do rather than how to do it. Motivational interviewing is a person-centered communication style that aims to guide the patient towards change by paying particular attention to how we talk to them.
This workshop aims to introduce Motivational Interviewing: what attitude can we adopt that respects the patient’s choice and autonomy while allowing them to consider changing behaviour? how can we encourage their thinking rather than generate resistance? how can we guide the conversation towards change?
Through practical exercises, participants will be able to experience the effects of the professional’s righting reflex, define the most helpful attitudes to adopt, discover the processes of motivational interviewing, practice the tools, and thus strengthen their skills.
